Managing Growth in Hays

Building the bridge between rural and urban interests is critical to the future of our precinct.

The local commissioner should be the bridge between rural and urban residents in the precinct, working with the school district, city officials and the county's resources to plan ahead for population growth. Instead, the current commissioner tries to play groups off against one another, is jealous of turf and credit, highly partisan, and has alienated even staff members at the county and her own Republican colleagues on the commissioners court.

The question is not whether we're going to grow, but whether we're going to grow with grace, whether we're going to preserve some of our special character as we grow. To do that we have to do more than bury our heads in the sand. We have to face the challenge and meet it head on.
